sightLevel enables you to turn your iPad2 or iPhone into a virtual laser level. Your virtual tool belt just got handier!

“sightLevel Pro is now a universal app, so you can utilize it on both your iPad2 and iPhone at no additional cost,” Karen Auman said. “We think that you will love sightLevel’s new functionality as well as its updated look.” The engineered user interface is designed for both the iPad2 and iPhone displays.

How it Works:

Using the built-in camera functionality, simply hold your iPad2 up in landscape view, tilt the iPad2 until the bubble is centered within the level, and use the horizontal red line to determine the slope.

Product Applications:

sightLevel Pro is a convenient, innovative update to a tried and true tool. Sight levels are useful for determining if walls, dividers, fences, wall hangings, and picture frames are level. They also help you determine the slope and run of a road, landscape, or excavation project. sightLevel Pro is perfect for professionals and weekend warriors alike who are looking for the utility of a virtual laser level. At this price, it beats any sight level at your local hardware store!

Pros and cons of sightLevel app for iPhone and iPad

sightLevel app good for

Local hardware store is selling a sight level for $17.95, what a deal. Can you add a second reference line so I can see if my new tile job is straight and level in two planes ?
I guess this is what one expects for free. Both horizontal and vertical guidelines can be shown, separately or together. Also can calibrate the readings. So if you dont have Theodolite, and can live with ads, this free program works on my iP4 running iOS 4.3.5.
This works well for what it is. Of course there are ads! This is a FREE app. How else are they supposed to get paid? Besides, I have only seen thin strips of advertisements across the bottom of the screen and they were not distracting. I would recommend it to homeowners doing occasional projects, but its probably not something Id suggest for professional use.
Hold line to object that is plumb or level such as a soffit on a house switch to calibrate screen hit the icon check it to the object you used if not good try again in until u get it good. This is a ruff way to get a pitch on a roof ext. bottom line it is plumb to object not plumb or level in reality. It is handy to get angles or grades within reason

Some bad moments

Using iOS 4, I downloaded and tried to open this app. The only thing that happened was the repeated failure of the iPhones camera to open. The cameras app would open to the closing of the simulated shutter. Then right before the simulated shutter is to open, the app restarts and the process repeats. Update: When I finished typing this review, on the same iPhone I downloaded the app and immediately following, I noticed that the keyboard function would not minimize when opening an application. I immediately deleted the app and still the problem existed. I was forced to turn off the iPhone. This seemed to fix the problem but my iPhone is now noticeably sluggish. What a headache!!!
Repeatedly tries to open the camera unsuccessfully. Used to work just fine, so I assume it just needs an update.
As said, camera will not open. This makes the app totally useless.
Program does not work. The mgr. was quick to take my money but not to fix it!
Guess Im too stupid to own this app... Cant find "help". I might give it 5 stars if I could figure out how to use it.
Includes ads, that would be fine if they had been honest and put that in the description. Removed App due to developer leaving that information out of the description.
